About the TDRA
The Tokai District Riding Association (TDRA) is an organization that was founded by horse riders in the Tokai area of Cape Town in January 2012. The association was officially constituted at a Special General Meeting (SGM) held on the 28th February 2012 at the Constantia Uitsig Stables in Tokai when a committee was elected and constitution approved by members that had signed up for the organization at the either the SGM or in the preceding weeks.
The TDRA is an umbrella not-for-profit organization that represents the interests of the riding community and interested parties participating in and associated with horse riding in the greater Tokai and surrounding areas. The membership fee is currently R300 annually per person and membership is open to anyone with an interest in horse riding and who agrees to abide by the TDRA’s constitution. The founders of the TDRA considered that it was important for horse riders and affected parties to have a unified, cohesive organization that could represent their individual interests as well as those of riding organizations, including Tokai Pony Club and local social intervention equine organizations, in their dealings with other riding organizations and government bodies whose decisions impact on horse riding – such as the provincial and national governments, City of Cape Town and SANParks.
The objectives of the organisation are set out in the constitution. The primary objectives of the organization are to preserve the privileges that riders currently enjoy in the greater Tokai area, including Table Mountain National Park, to facilitate the provision of more efficient and extensive bridleways and to secure an easily accessible communal riding facility in the Tokai area in the form of an arena that can be operated on a not-for-profit basis for the benefit of all members wishing to make use of such a facility.
In order to ensure POPIA Compliance, the Tokai District Riding Association (TDRA), which is a non-profit organisation (NPO), has registered their Information Officer Grant Chapman and Deputy Information Officer with the Information Regulator of South Africa. The TDRA has also compiled the necessary POPIA documentation for the organisation and its four current key committee members and will also comply with POPIA in managing members’ personal information in its database.
